professional training for conducting enlisten® listening programs is ideal for specialists in a variety of areas, including educators, coaches, corporate trainers, musicians, physicians, psychologists and therapists. the training includes three experiential, hands-on courses that begin with a personal listening experience and then teach you how to:
- assess client needs and progress
- write individualized enlisten® listening programs
designed to achieve specific client goals
- work with clients in home, center, school, and/or business
programs
- communicate about enlisten® to colleagues, parents,
and general audiences
individuals with a minimum of a bachelors degree and three
years of experience in their service profession can apply
for enlisten® professional training. advanced degrees
and professional licenses are preferred, with consideration
given to all who apply with at least an appropriate degree
and experience.
professionals are trained to provide educational programs,
and no clinical claims are made for enlisten® programs.
although they are not covered by medical insurance, enlisten®
programs have been helpful in achieving new listening abilities
and skills that provide a foundation for developing other
competencies for people with difficult and long-standing problems.
this occurs because the ear contains two of the major human sensory systems, the cochlear and vestibular systems, and links with the third major sensory system, which is visual-spatial. if information processed through the ear is distorted, incomplete, or dysfunctional, the person is not able to perform at his or her potential, which can be increased by improving listening.
enlisten® software was developed by dr. kirk d. thompson following the research of dr. alfred a. tomatis, a french ear, nose and throat specialist who initiated the tomatis method and the field of listening training using sound stimulation. dr. billie m. thompson developed an assessment and program decision model to use with enlisten® software and licensed music to select, adapt, and create individualized listening programs for a wide range of applications, abilities, and ages.
for dates, locations, applications and costs of upcoming professional training sessions, email soundlisten@soundlistening.com. several options exist to meet the needs of busy specialists, including distance learning and outreach programs. all professional training begins with a personal home enlisten® listening experience and ends with a distance internship for the first 8 to 10 clients of the specialist following licensing. a license contract is given upon completion of requirements and the purchase of a minimum of one annual enlisten® software license.
